Italian Competition Authority opens investigation into Samsung, Opia and World Business over unfair and aggressive commercial practices

On 27 July 2022, the Italian Competition Authority (ICA) opened an investigation into Samsung Electronics, Opia Ltd and World Business over alleged misleading and aggressive commercial practices. The ICA stated that it will investigate Samsung’s commercial offer that allows customers to sell their used devices for an “advantageous price” if they buy a new Samsung product. The ICA will assess how the used product is resold, noting that consumers have not been provided with enough or adequate information regarding how the state of use and the price of used devices are established.
