IMDA and PDPC launch Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PET) Sandbox

On 20 July 2022, the Singapore Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) and the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) launched the Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PET) Sandbox pilot programme. This sandbox aims to support businesses and organizations in tackling common privacy issues and enhancing economic cooperation. PET aims to allow the IMDA and the PDPC to share knowledge and expertise while maintaining the confidentiality of any personal data. Moreover, the sandbox aims to allow businesses to test pilot privacy-enhancing projects and understand how data sharing could be conducted without extensive privacy or cybersecurity concerns. Particularly, the PET sandbox aims to answer questions on data safety and accessibility, AI algorithms development and customer preferences profiling. Businesses that participate in the program may receive regulatory advice and grants. From the findings of the project, the IMDA and the PDPC plan to draft policy guidance and best practice standards.
