On 1 March 1987, the Fair Trading Act 1986 enters into force. "The Act (a) prohibits certain unfair conduct and practices in relation to trade, (b) promotes fair conduct and practices in relation to trade, (c) provides for the disclosure of consumer information relating to the supply of goods and services, and (d) promotes safety in respect of goods and services". For what concerns consumer protection, it states that "no person shall, in trade, engage in conduct that is misleading or deceptive or is likely to mislead or deceive" (Part 1, Section 9).
