Adopted Privacy Act 1988 regulating personal information protection in electronic commerce

On 14 December 1988, the Australian Legislative Assembly adopts the Privacy Act. The Act is aimed at protecting the privacy of individuals and regulating how Australian Government agencies and organisations handle personal information. The Act introduces a general legal framework on privacy that affect consumers as well. The Act will enter into force on 1 January 1989. [CPTPP provision 14.8.2]
