Russian court imposes fine on Zoom and Ookla for for non-compliance with data localisation requirement

On 12 July 2022, the Magistrate's Court of the Tagansky District of Moscow issued a ruling in the case brought before the Court by the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media of Russia, Roskomnadzor against Zoom Video Communications and Ookla. The Court found the two companies in violation of Russia's personal data legislation for refusing to localise the personal data of Russian citizens. In addition, the Court noted that the companies failed to provide documents confirming that the storage and processing of personal data of Russian users are carried out on the territory of the Russian Federation. The Court issued a fine of RUB 1 million each for Zoom Video Communications and Ookla LLC
