Adopted Guide on the Responsible Use of Biometric Data in Security Applications

On 17 May 2022, the Singapore Personal Data Protection Commissioner (PDPC) published a Guide on Responsible Use of Biometric Data in Security Applications, which outlines best practices for entities using security applications. The Guide lists the security measures that have to be implemented by entities that choose to use biometric recognition systems in order to ensure the protection of collected data. Furthermore, the Guide includes the obligations regarding the collection, storage and processing of biometric data and the exceptions that the Personal Data Protection Act provides for the processing of sensitive data.
