European Union: Announced regulatory sandbox on AI

On 27 June 2022, the Spanish government and European Commission jointly presented the first regulatory sandbox on Artificial Intelligence (AI). The sandbox aims to facilitate exchange between authorities and AI innovators to develop best practices in view of the upcoming implementation of the AI Act, concerning the development, testing and validation of AI systems. In addition, the European Commission will establish an expert group on AI and digitisation. The results of the pilot including guidelines will be published in the middle of 2023. The pilot is open for EU Member States to join.
