Description

Introduction of Satellite Cybersecurity Act (S.3511)

On 13 January 2022, the Senate introduced the Satellite Cybersecurity Act (S.3511). The bill contains rules on cybersecurity issues related to commercial satellite systems. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) will be required to maintain a publicly available clearinghouse of cybersecurity resources for commercial satellite systems. The agency is also asked to draft recommendations for the development, maintenance, and operation of those systems. Further, these must include measures to protect the systems from cyber-related vulnerabilities and attacks. Moreover, the bill requires the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to report on federal initiatives to support the cybersecurity of commercial satellite systems.
