Berlin Commissioner announces guidance on advertising and address trading

On 16 June 2022, the Berlin data protection authority published guidance regarding data protection in advertising and address trading. Regarding advertising, the authority identified the overlap between personal data and advertising and explained how advertisers receive data, which data protection requirements advertisers must uphold, and how users can enforce their rights. Regarding address trading, the authority explained that users must consent separately to both the acquisition of their data and the passing on of their data to third parties.
