On 13 June 2022, India's Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued an Advisory on Advertisements of Online Betting Platforms addressed to both print and electronic media service providers. The Advisory notes that a number of advertisements for online betting platforms had recently appeared in both print and electronic media. With reference to the Ministry's previous guidelines on online advertisements, the Ministry notes that betting is prohibited in many parts of the country, meaning that advertisements promoting such activity can lead to harm for consumers and be misleading. As a result, media service providers are advised not to publish adverts for online betting platforms.
