On 5 May 2022, the Better Cybercrime Metrics Act was signed by US President Biden and became law. The bill aims to improve the cybersecurity framework of the United States of America by ameliorating data collection around cyber-related incidents and crimes. The Act requests the Department of Justice to create a taxonomy of different types of cybercrime in collaboration with the National Academy of Sciences and to include cybercrime statistics in the National Incident-Based Reporting System and questions about cybercrime in the National Crime Victimization Survey. Finally, the Government Accountability Office is requested to assess the quality and effectiveness of data reporting on cybercrime.
