Formal request by Canada to join Digital Economy Partnership Agreement

On 22 May 2022, the Canadian Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development announced that it submitted a formal request to join the Digital Economy Partnership Agreement (DEPA). The DEPA creates a common framework for data protection, establishes common rules on digital trade and removes digital barriers for businesses. Currently, Chile, Singapore and New Zealand are parties the DEPA, and Korea is in negotiations to join it.
