On May 24 2021, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed Senate Bill 7072 into law. The Bill aims to introduce transparency requirements for social media platforms. Particularly, such platforms are obliged to disclose the standards that they use for determining how to censor, deplatform, and shadow ban content or users, notify users of any change to such standards and provide to each user a counter showing the number of users that viewed the posted contents. Moreover, platforms providing free advertising for a candidate must inform the candidate of such contribution. The provisions in the Bill will enter into force on 1 July 2021.
