CCPA issues notice to Ola and Uber over violation of consumer rights

On 20 May 2022, the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) of India issued notices to the online ride-hailing platforms Ola and Uber regarding unfair trade practices and violations of consumer rights. The notices are based on 2482 grievances filed against Ola and 770 grievances against Uber between 1 April 2021 and 1 May 2022, the main issues being deficiencies in service, inadequate redressal mechanisms, unreasonable cancellation charges, lack of algorithm information, and additional charges through pre-ticked boxes without proper consent.
