European Commission issues Statement of Objections concerning Apple's practices regarding Apple Pay/NFC payments

On 2 May 2022, the European Commission has issued a Statement of Objections informing Apple of its preliminary view that Apple's conduct with respect to Apple Pay violates EU competition laws. According to the Commission, Apple abused its dominant position by limiting access to mobile Near Field Communication (NFC) technology on its devices to its own payment solution Apple Pay, preventing NFC payments by other mobile wallet app developers. The Statement of Objections informs a party of the objections raised against them, allowing the party to respond to the objections.
