Published proposal for Digital Single Market Copyright Directive outlining exceptions for data analytics and artificial intelligence

On 14 September 2016, the European Commission published a proposal for a Directive on copyright and related rights in the Digital Single Market. The proposed directive would introduce three exceptions from copyright protection. The Commission proposes copyright exceptions for digital and cross-border teaching activities, cultural heritage preservation and text and data mining conducted for research purposes (Articles 3,4 and 5 of the proposal).
