European Union: Opened EU Commission Targeted consultation on a digital euro

The European Commission opened a "Targeted consultation on a digital euro" until14 June 2022. The consultation concerns the development of a digital euro to be used concurrently with banknotes and coins. This would require a dedicated Regulation proposed by the European Commission. Therefore, the consultation complements the European Central Bank's public consultation by collecting information on the expected impacts on the industry (i.e. financial intermediation, payment services), users, and other stakeholders. Moreover, the consultation requests inputs regarding the application of anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing rules and data protection.
