Description

Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs confirmed TikTok's deactivation of 1.7 million child accounts in compliance with government regulation on child protection

On 28 April 2026, the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs announced that TikTok deactivated 1.7 million accounts belonging to users under 16 years of age in accordance with child protection regulations. TikTok reported the deactivation of 1.7 million such accounts, compared to 780’000 accounts reported on 14 April 2026. The regulation applies to all digital platforms operating in Indonesia and establishes obligations, including the deactivation of accounts held by underage users, content moderation measures, handling of digital crimes, and cooperation with government authorities on digital literacy and child safety initiatives. The regulation also mandates all digital platforms to submit compliance self-assessments to the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs by 6 June 2026. The Ministry is responsible for evaluating these submissions to monitor compliance with the regulatory framework.
