On 6 April 2026, a Bill on the protection and responsible use of social networks by children, adolescents, and youth, including provisions on content moderation governance, was introduced to the Chamber of Deputies. The Bill provides for the designation of an authority by the National Executive Power to oversee content moderation and enforcement, with details to be established through regulation within 180 days of enactment. The authority would be responsible for approving guidance on responsible social network use, conducting public information campaigns on digital literacy and children’s rights, monitoring compliance with age verification requirements, and applying sanctions in cases of non-compliance. Sanctions may include warnings, fines of up to 30 per cent of monthly billing, or operational restrictions. The Bill also allows for cooperation with civil society organisations and non-profit associations to support information dissemination and educational initiatives on responsible technology use.
