Personal Information Protection Commission announced inquiry into pseudonymised information utilisation in artificial intelligence and robotics sector

On 24 April 2026, the Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) announced an inquiry into pseudonymised information utilisation in the artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics sector, holding a field consultation with AI and robotics companies based in the Daegu and North Gyeongsang regions at the Daegu Pseudonymised Information Utilisation Support Centre. The consultation is directed at AI and robotics companies using personal data in their operations. Industry participants raised, firstly, the need for regulatory improvements to enable broader use of original data, secondly, simplification of pseudonymisation and data combination procedures, thirdly, the need for AI technology demonstration environments, and fourthly, the development of case-based pseudonymised information guidelines. The PIPC presented its pseudonymised information policy priorities and outlined its support infrastructure, comprising an online pseudonymised information support platform, offline one-stop support centres, regional support centres, an Innovation Zone and specialist data combination agencies.
