The Personal Data Protection Bill, 2019 was introduced to the House (Lok Sabha). The Bill includes data residency obligations and the mandatory disclosure of cross-border data transfers for so-called "data fiduciary" companies. Whereas sensitive personal data can be transferred outside India under certain circumstances, it shall continue to be stored in India (Art. 33). However, critical personal data can only be processed in India, unless otherwise approved by the government.
