Automated Vehicles Act 2024 (Commencement No. 2) Regulations 2026 enter into force

On 15 May 2026, the Automated Vehicles Act 2024 (Commencement No. 2) Regulations 2026 enter into force. The regulations bring into force Part 5, governing permits for automated passenger services. It sets out rules on the grant, content, and effect of permits, as well as requirements prior to granting permits and provisions on the collection, sharing, and protection of information under the permit scheme. Sections 84 (civil sanctions for infringements of the permit scheme) and 89(8)(b) and (10) (procedural and administrative matters) are not commenced. Section 93 also enters into force, enabling the Secretary of State and the Welsh Ministers to require traffic regulation authorities to provide information on traffic regulation measures to support communication with authorised automated vehicles.
