eSafety Commissioner and Office of the Australian Information Commissioner signed a memorandum of understanding regarding implementation of age assurance requirements

On 23 April 2026, the eSafety Commissioner and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) concerning cooperation and information sharing between the two authorities. The arrangement sets out communication and coordination processes in areas where their respective statutory functions intersect, including the implementation of age assurance requirements under relevant online industry codes and standards. The MOU provides for the exchange of information and expertise on online privacy and safety matters, including monitoring of emerging risks and compliance with Social Media Minimum Age obligations. It also covers coordination in relation to the use of age-assurance technologies and developments linked to artificial intelligence, within the scope of each authority’s regulatory responsibilities.
