United Kingdom: Office of Communications closed its investigation into Yolobit over alleged failure to comply with illegal content duties under Online Safety Act

Description

Office of Communications closed its investigation into Yolobit over alleged failure to comply with illegal content duties under Online Safety Act

On 21 April 2026, the Office of Communications (Ofcom) closed its investigation into the provider of Yolobit concerning potential non-compliance with obligations under the Online Safety Act 2023. The investigation, opened on 10 June 2025, had examined whether the provider failed to respond to a statutory information request, complete and retain a suitable and sufficient illegal content risk assessment, and comply with safety duties relating to illegal content applicable to regulated user-to-user services from 17 March 2025. Those duties included obligations to assess risks and adopt measures to prevent users from encountering priority illegal content, including image-based child sexual abuse material. On or around 15 June 2025, Yolobit became unavailable to people in the United Kingdom and, to Ofcom's knowledge, more widely. Ofcom monitored the service's availability and its impact on UK users and pursued further lines of inquiry before deciding to close the investigation. Ofcom may decide to re-open the investigation if appropriate.
