Description

Competition Authority announced inquiry into competition policies in digital age

On 14 April 2026, the Turkish Competition Authority announced the initiation of an inquiry titled Competition Policies in the Digital Age to evaluate the effects of digitalisation on competition law and policy. The aim of the inquiry is to identify existing and potential competition problems arising in digital markets, assess intervention tools, and contribute to national policy development processes. The Competition Authority will examine the global digital economy, analyse the position of businesses in these markets, and compare ex-ante regulatory approaches with ex-post competition law interventions across different jurisdictions. The inquiry will also address the applicability of sanctions, interim measures, and commitment mechanisms in digital environments. The final output of this inquiry will be the Competition Policies Report in the Digital Age, which will serve as an updated and expanded continuation of previous research on the implications of digital transformation for competition law.
