On 8 April 2026, the Ministry of Digital Development and Information confirmed that smart glasses with artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities are regulated under existing data protection laws. It was stated that the organisations providing such products must comply with the Personal Data Protection Act when collecting, using, or disclosing personal data. They must be transparent about data collection and purposes and obtain consent where required. They must also maintain clear and accessible data protection policies. Where data is transferred overseas, organisations must ensure comparable protection standards and remain accountable. Non-compliance may result in financial penalties. It was also stated that misuse, including non-consensual recording or sharing of private content, may also constitute offences under the Penal Code and the Protection from Harassment Act.
