On 9 April 2026, the Florida Attorney General's office opened an investigation into OpenAI and its chatbot ChatGPT. The investigation concerns the alleged role of ChatGPT in a mass shooting at Florida State University in the preceding year, harms to children, and national security concerns, including whether OpenAI's data and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies could fall into the hands of foreign adversaries such as the Chinese Communist Party.
