Bill amending Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilisation and Information Protection was introduced to National Assembly

On 6 April 2026, the Bill amending the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilisation and Information Protection was introduced to the National Assembly. The Bill amends Article 44-7(1) of Act No. 21305 to designate as illegal information content depicting disruptive acts that disturb the peace carried out for the purpose of economic gain. A new Article 74(1)(3-2) would provide that any person who distributes video content depicting such disruptive acts in violation of Article 44-7(1)(2-3) shall be punished by imprisonment of up to one year or a fine not exceeding ten million won. Article 75-2 would be amended to extend confiscation and additional collection provisions to offences under Article 74(1)(3-2). The amendments are scheduled to enter into force on 7 July 2026.
