On 19 February 2026, the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Bill, including worker protection regulation was introduced to the Senate. The Act seeks to establish a framework for the regulation and governance of AI, applying to providers, deployers, and users of AI systems. The Act aims to ensure ethical, transparent, and accountable AI use, foster innovation, safeguard human rights and data protection and promote AI literacy, and align with international standards. The Act introduces workforce impact obligations applicable to providers and deployers of AI systems likely to affect employment. The Act requires such entities to conduct workforce impact assessments, including evaluating potential job displacement, and to implement mitigation measures such as reskilling programmes in collaboration with national and county government agencies. It further mandates the Artificial Intelligence Commissioner, in consultation with relevant bodies, to develop guidelines on workforce transition, including vocational training partnerships and incentives to promote AI adoption that supports job creation.
