Description

Gaming Commission closes consultation on regulation to prevent minors from accessing online gambling platforms

On 15 May 2026, the New York State Gaming Commission closes the consultation on the regulation to prevent minors from accessing online gambling platforms, following a directive from the governor. The regulation would apply to all licensed gaming operators, including mobile sports wagering platforms. Obligations would include mandatory biometric verification at account creation and before each wager, age-assurance controls on app downloads, geolocation monitoring, simultaneous-access detection, and the option for adults to freeze their social security number against misuse temporarily. Operators would also be required to report suspected cases of minors accessing accounts, and individuals found to have facilitated underage gambling would be excluded from all licensed gaming facilities in New York and have their winnings forfeited.
