United States and Bangladesh adopted Agreement on Reciprocal Trade including cybersecurity regulation

On 9 February 2026, the United States and Bangladesh signed the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade. Under the Agreement, Bangladesh commits to collaborating with the US to address cybersecurity challenges. Bangladesh also commits to incorporating adequate safeguards for the protection of freedom of expression under the Cyber Safety Ordinance 2025, repealing the 2021 Regulation for Digital, Social Media, and Over the Top (OTT) Platforms to remove requirements for traceability within end-to-end encrypted services, and incorporate US stakeholder feedback in the revision of the Personal Data Protection Ordinance (PDPO).
