Guatemala and United States Agreement adopted on Reciprocal Trade including cross-border data transfer regulation

On 30 January 2026, the governments of Guatemala and the United States signed the Guatemala-United States Agreement on Reciprocal Trade. The Agreement requires Guatemala to ensure the free transfer of data across trusted borders for business conduct. Under Annex III, Guatemala commits to providing certainty to data transfers by recognising the United States as a jurisdiction that provides adequate data protection under its domestic law.
