Guatemala and United States adopted Agreement on Reciprocal Trade including prohibition of customs duties on electronic transmissions

On 30 January 2026, the governments of Guatemala and the United States signed the Guatemala-United States Agreement on Reciprocal Trade. Article 3.5 of the Agreement prohibits Guatemala from imposing customs duties on electronic transmissions, including any content transmitted electronically. Furthermore, the provision requires Guatemala to support the immediate and unconditional multilateral adoption of a permanent moratorium on customs duties on electronic transmissions at the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
