United States and Chinese Taipei signed Agreement on Reciprocal Trade including prohibition of customs duties on electronic transmissions

On 12 February 2026, the United States and Chinese Taipei signed the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade including a prohibition on customs duties for electronic transmissions under the auspices of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office (TECRO) in the United States. Under Article 4.5, both parties agree not to impose customs duties on electronic transmissions, including content transmitted electronically. Additionally, the signatories commit to supporting the multilateral adoption of a permanent moratorium on customs duties on electronic transmissions at the World Trade Organisation (WTO) immediately and without conditions.
