Cabinet approved establishment of National Council for Artificial Intelligence

On 21 November 2019, the Cabinet approved a draft resolution establishing the National Council for Artificial Intelligence (NCAI) as a partnership between governmental institutions, academics, and practitioners from leading businesses in the field of AI. The NCAI operates under the Cabinet and is chaired by the Minister of Communications and Information Technology. Its membership includes a number of ministers and heads of bodies concerned. The NCAI is responsible for outlining, implementing, and governing the national strategy for artificial intelligence in coordination with concerned experts and entities. Its remit includes identifying national priorities in AI applications, recommending national policies pertaining to the technical, legal, and economic framework of AI applications, promoting regional and international cooperation, reviewing international protocols and agreements in the field of AI and recommending capacity building programmes.
