Ofcom issued information requests to TikTok regarding measures to protect children under Online Safety Act

On 12 March 2026, the Office of Communications (Ofcom) issued legally binding information requests to TikTok as part of broader action on Facebook, Instagram, Roblox, Snapchat, TikTok, and YouTube under the Online Safety Act. The requests relate to TikTok’s measures to protect children, including the enforcement of its minimum age policy, the introduction of strict controls to prevent strangers contacting children, the management of algorithmic content promotion to children, and notification to Ofcom that risks from significant updates have been assessed before deployment. TikTok is required to report its response by 30 April 2026 and must publish it. Ofcom will review the responses of all six platforms in May 2026 and announce any next steps for regulatory action at that time.
