On 4 March 2026, the Minister of Communication and Digital conducted an inspection of Meta's operational office in Jakarta over Meta's handling of online gambling, disinformation, slander, and hate speech (DFK) content on Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Government monitoring data recorded Meta's compliance rate in responding to findings of online gambling and DFK content in Indonesia at 28.47%. Meta's user base in Indonesia includes approximately 112 million Facebook users and approximately 112 million WhatsApp users. The Minister of Communication and Digital stated that DFK content has the potential to threaten the safety of the Indonesian public. The government cited Article 40 of Law Number 1 of 2024 (the Electronic Information and Transactions Law), which authorises the state to prevent and handle the dissemination of unlawful electronic information. Every electronic system operator in Indonesia is obligated to comply with national law and is responsible for the security of the digital space. The government called on Meta to strengthen its content moderation system and accelerate the handling of unlawful content relating to online gambling, health disinformation, digital fraud, and sexual exploitation.
