Securities and Exchange Commission announced regulatory sandbox framework for virtual asset service providers

On 23 January 2026, the Securities and Exchange Commission of Ghana (SEC) announced that it is finalising a regulatory sandbox framework for virtual asset service providers (VASPs) under the Virtual Asset Service Providers Act, 2025 (Act 1154). The sandbox would provide a controlled testing environment under SEC oversight for the following categories of virtual asset services, namely exchanges and trading platforms, issuance, tokenisation, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), asset management, brokerage and investment advisory, and mining and validation services relating to securities. Upon completion of the framework, the SEC will open a licensing application process for the above categories.
