Republic of Korea: Bill amending Information and Communications Network Act to introduce security assessments for Internet of Things devices was introduced to National Assembly

On 27 February 2026, the Bill amending the Information and Communications Network Act to introduce security assessments for Internet of Things (IoT) devices was introduced to the National Assembly. The Bill applies to manufacturers and suppliers of network-connected devices that collect, process, and transmit data. Under the proposed amendment, the Minister of Science and ICT may conduct security investigations of such devices where deemed necessary for the stability of information and communications networks. The Minister may also publish the results of those investigations. The measure establishes a legal basis for systematic oversight of IoT security and aims to provide consumers with reliable security information.
