On 26 February 2026, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) adopted a Circular on disclosure of registered name and registration number on Social Media Platforms (HO/(79)2026-MIRSD-PODMMC) under its Ease of Doing Investment (EoDI) initiative. The Circular applies to intermediaries and other persons regulated by SEBI, as defined under Chapter IIIA — Explanation 1 of Regulation 16A of the SEBI (Intermediaries) Regulations, 2008. SEBI issued the Circular under its statutory powers pursuant to Section 11(1) of the Securities and Exchange Board of India Act, 1992. The Circular requires regulated entities and their agents to prominently disclose their SEBI registered name and registration number on the home page of their social media platform (SMP) handles and at the beginning of each video or content relating to the securities market. Entities with a single registration must state their SEBI registered name and registration number directly. Entities with multiple registrations must provide a weblink on the home page directing to their website listing all SEBI registered names and registration numbers, and disclose only the relevant registration at the beginning of each video or content. The same framework applies to agents of regulated entities, with additional disclosure of the principal entity’s registration details where applicable. The provisions of the Circular apply to all content uploaded on or after 1 May 2026.
