On 27 February 2026, the Inter-Agency Consultative Body on Overseas Transfer of Survey Results approved Google’s application to export 1:5,000 scale map data under the Spatial Information Management Act, subject to security conditions. The approval applies to digital mapping services and permits export only of limited, non-sensitive navigation data following government review and domestic processing on Korean servers operated by a local partner. Google is required to implement image security processing, coordinate display restrictions, a security incident response framework, and appoint a Korea-based responsible officer, with approval subject to verification and ongoing compliance.
