On 19 February 2026, the Bill Preventive Mental Health Regime in Digital Environments (7340-D-2025) was introduced to the Argentine Chamber of Deputies. The Bill would establish proportional age verification obligations for digital platforms to enable differentiated protections for minors in digital environments. It would apply to platforms established in Argentina and to foreign platforms targeting the Argentine market with more than 100’000 monthly active users domiciled in Argentina, local advertising, or localised payment methods, while platforms below 10’000 users and certain encrypted private messaging services would be excluded. The Bill would require platforms to implement age verification systems appropriate to their scale and type of service. These systems would have to minimise the collection and retention of identifying personal data. Verification would be permitted through certified third parties, state digital identity services, or age estimation methods that do not require direct identification. The systems would not be allowed to require biometric data or photographic identity documents, except with express parental consent where provided by regulation. Platforms would also be required to ensure that the systems are auditable by the enforcement authority and that verification data is anonymised or deleted within 72 hours. These systems would enable the application of age-tiered safeguards, including strict default protections for users under 13, a co-management model with parental oversight for users aged 13 to 16, and enhanced autonomy for users aged 16 to 17.
