On 17 February 2026, the Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) released compliance reports submitted by Apple, iTunes, and Google as designated businesses under the Act on Promotion of Competition Relating to Specified Software Used on Smartphones (Act No. 58), which came into full effect on 18 December 2025. The JFTC also established an information submission form for information on transactions between designated businesses and app businesses, plans for new services, and opinions on the Act's implementation, and a separate reporting form for suspected violations of the Act. Individual responses are not provided, and reports do not guarantee action by the JFTC.
