Description

Communications and Multimedia Commission opened consultation on online safety plan under Online Safety Act

On 12 February 2026, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission opened a consultation on the online safety plan under the Online Safety Act 2025, until 13 March 2026. The consultation aims to gather information on the requirements under Section 20 of the Act, which obliges licensed application service providers and licensed content application service providers operating in Malaysia to develop, publish, and submit an Online Safety Plan to the Commission. The plan must explain how providers comply with statutory online safety duties. The proposal is structured around six components, risk mitigation, content management and moderation, user empowerment and controls, child protection, transparency and reporting, and governance and accountability. It aims to support risk management, the protection of children and vulnerable users, and regulatory oversight.
