Description

Communications Commission launched of a fact-finding investigation into Instagram over alleged unjustifiable account suspensions and failure to provide support services

On 11 February 2026, the Communications Commission (KCC) announced the launch of a fact-finding investigation into Meta Platforms (Instagram) concerning the suspension of user accounts and the provision of support services. The investigation is examining whether the account suspensions that occurred in May and June 2025 complied with the Telecommunications Business Act. The KCC noted that while Meta implemented enhanced monitoring in 2024 to block child sexual abuse material and pornographic content, the KCC specified that some general accounts were permanently suspended. The KCC is also reviewing whether users of the paid Meta Verified service received timely support for account recovery. If any violations are confirmed, the KCC may consider measures such as fines or corrective recommendations.
