On 11 February 2026, the Electronic Transactions Development Agency (ETDA) and the Department of Land Transport released guidelines for operating a ride-sharing business for platforms and drivers. The guidelines clarify that the extension of the announcement regarding other procedures for operators of public ride-sharing platforms (Ride Sharing Platform Announcement) until 31 March 2026 provides relief only for platform operations. The Driver Verify system will be available until 28 February 2026 to facilitate registration of Type 17 or Type 18 vehicles. The system issues certification letters valid for Type 17 or Type 18 registration until 28 February 2026. Required documents include the vehicle registration certificate, proof of additional insurance, and a public vehicle driver's licence. The criminal background check process takes approximately 2 to 3 weeks. From 1 March to 30 March 2026, platforms must remove unregistered vehicles and drivers without public driver's licences from their services. From 31 March 2026 onwards, non-compliant platforms may receive a business prohibition order. Drivers using private vehicles for public transport face fines not exceeding 2'000 baht under the Motor Vehicle Act B.E. 2522 (1979) Section 21 in conjunction with Section 60. Drivers without a public driver's licence face fines not exceeding 1'000 baht or imprisonment not exceeding one month under Section 64 of the Motor Vehicle Act B.E. 2522 (1979).
