United Kingdom: Office of Communications closed investigation into Nippybox over alleged non-compliance with duties under Online Safety Act

Description

Office of Communications closed investigation into Nippybox over alleged non-compliance with duties under Online Safety Act

On 12 February 2026, the Office of Communications (Ofcom) closed its investigation into Nippybox, a file-sharing service, under the Online Safety Act 2023. Ofcom determined that no further action was needed, as the service has been unavailable in the UK since June 2025. Ofcom may reopen the case if circumstances change. The investigation, launched in June 2025, examined potential breaches of duties, including responding to information requests, completing illegal content risk assessments, and implementing safety measures to prevent exposure to priority illegal content, such as image-based child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Non-compliance could have led to penalties of up to GBP 18 million or 10% of global revenue.
