Republic of Korea: Personal Information Protection Commission adopted designation of Personal Information Innovation Zone operating institution (Notice No. 2026-05)

On 9 February 2026, the Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) designated Gwangju Technopark as the operating institution for the Personal Information Innovation Zone through Notice No. 2026-05. The designated facility is located in Gwangju Metropolitan City and the AI Convergence Centre of Gwangju Technopark will oversee the operation of the Zone. The designation follows the selection process conducted by the Data Safety Policy Division and formalises the institution responsible for administering the Innovation Zone under the applicable data governance framework.
