Description

Data Protection Authority and National Labour Inspectorate announced investigation into Amazon over alleged unlawful worker monitoring and data processing

On 9 February 2026, the Italian Data Protection Authority (GPDP) and the National Labour Inspectorate (INL) announced a joint investigation into Amazon regarding the processing of workers' personal data and the use of video surveillance systems. The investigation follows technical assessments and media reports concerning potential irregularities in the management of employee information. The investigation will examine the company's logistics hubs, with a particular focus on the distribution centres in Passo Corese and Castel San Giovanni, to determine the extent to which monitoring practices comply with the legal requirements stipulated within the Workers' Statute. The execution of these activities is overseen by the offices of the GPDP and the competent central structures of the INL, in collaboration with the Special Privacy and Technological Fraud Protection Unit of the Financial Guard.
