On 10 February 2026, the eSafety Commissioner announced that it had notified Roblox of its intention to directly test the platform’s implementation and effectiveness of the nine safety commitments it made last year, amid ongoing concerns about online child grooming and sexual exploitation. These commitments included default privacy settings for users under 16, restrictions on adult–child chat, age verification for chat features, and parental controls, as well as limits on voice chat. Roblox reported at the end of 2025 that it had delivered on these commitments, and eSafety has since been monitoring compliance and new feature implementation. eSafety Commissioner emphasised ongoing concerns about child exploitation and exposure to harmful material, noting that direct testing will provide compliance information. Subject to the outcome, eSafety may take further action under the Online Safety Act, including penalties of up to AUD 49.5 million. New codes on age-restricted content, effective 9 March, impose additional obligations on online gaming services such as Roblox to prevent child grooming, sexual extortion, and non-consensual sharing of intimate images, and eSafety will assess compliance from that date.
